This hike around Lanjarón will beautifully showcase the area’s deep connection with water. On the western edge of the Alpujarra, an intricate network of ancient irrigation channels, the acequias, runs across the hillsides at different altitudes. Along these water channels, we’ll walk among chestnut and fruit trees, small gardens, and terraces filled with kiwis, cherries, figs, pomegranates, and vines.
The route follows both the Cecarta and Aceituno acequias, which draw their water from the Lanjarón River. Along the way, we’ll pass old farmhouses, agricultural terraces, and natural springs with cool mountain water. We’ll also cross sections of the GR-7 and GR-142 long-distance trails. One of the highlights will be the beautiful spot where the Cecarta acequia collects its water from the river, a peaceful place surrounded by nature.
We’ll take a break near Huerta de las Monjas, an ideal place to rest and enjoy the scenery. From there, the trail descends along wooden railings and narrow zigzag paths to reach the lower Aceituno acequia. We’ll then follow it back toward the village, surrounded by orchards and the soothing sound of flowing water. A refreshing route that highlights the green and fertile side of Lanjarón.
