Accessibility and conditions
I am a beginner, can I join?
Are the hikes difficult?
We always rate our hikes as easy, moderate, or difficult. A short hike can sometimes be rated as difficult due to steep climbs. Similarly, a moderate hike might feel difficult for someone with a fear of heights. This varies from person to person and is hard for us to predict.
Always check the distance and elevation gain to get a good idea of what to expect.
What is described as easy, moderate or difficult for experienced hikers can feel moderate, difficult or nearly impossible for someone without hiking experience.
Can children join?
Children aged 15 to 18 may only participate under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Parents are fully responsible for what their children can and may do.
If part of the hike is too dangerous, the group will not turn back. In that case, parents/guardians must return on their own with the child(ren) and should have taken precautions in advance. With Wikiloc you can record the route; if you want to return, stop the recording and follow your own track back.
Are dogs allowed on the hikes?
- Your dog is friendly and not aggressive toward other dogs or people.
- Your dog listens to your commands.
- You bring a leash for any sections of the hike that might pass along roads.
Additionally, you must leash your dog (and keep it on a short lead) if:
- Someone in the group is uncomfortable with your dog.
- There are any unsafe conditions.
What if I don't want or dare to continue?
We always try to describe the hikes as clearly as possible and rate them for experienced hikers. If you’re unsure whether you can handle the hike, or if it’s your first time doing it, it’s better not to join.
What is described as easy, moderate or hard for experienced hikers can feel moderate, difficult or nearly impossible for someone without hiking experience.
What if I don’t agree with the terms?
Practical matters during the hike
Where is the meeting point?
Can I get a ride to the meeting point?
Yes, it’s possible, but you’ll need to arrange it yourself. Head to our Facebook group, go to the “Featured” section, find the hike you need a ride for, and post in the comments section asking for a lift. Be sure to mention:
- Where you are located (including your area or neighborhood).
- It’s helpful if you’re willing to hike to a convenient pick-up spot.
- Offer to share fuel costs (Ride Share Calculator) or at least buy your driver a drink afterwards.
What happens if there’s an emergency?
We will do our best to assist you, but ultimately, you are responsible for your own safety. If we are in an area with no cell coverage and an emergency occurs, we may need to leave you temporarily (alone) to get help. If an airlift is required, you are responsible for the costs. We strongly recommend having insurance that covers such situations.
How can I get hiking insurance?
Great that you’re looking into this. We always recommend getting insurance, not just when joining our hikes, but also if you’re hiking alone or with family.
We do not offer insurance ourselves and we don’t provide advice on it. We recommend contacting a specialized insurance broker.
Do you have a professional guide?
No, we are volunteers. The person referred to as the Guide or Route Coordinator is a volunteer who knows the route and walks in front. This Route Coordinator is not a professional and does not do this as a job. If you find something unsafe or too scary, talk to the Route Coordinator and let them know what you don’t feel comfortable doing or if you think something could be done differently or more safely.
Communication during a hike?
If communication is needed during a hike, we prefer to use mobile phones. However, there is often no signal in the mountains. If you have a radio with PMR446 communication capabilities (also known as a walkie-talkie), we normally use channel 7 (446.08125 MHz). If this channel is already in use, we switch to channel 1 (446.00625 MHz).

Why is hiking with you free?
Our hikes are free because we simply love hiking and sharing that passion with others. There’s no catch, just a desire to explore nature together and enjoy the outdoors. We believe that experiencing nature shouldn’t come with a price tag, so we organize these hikes without any cost.
What is this "Buy Me a Coffee" thing?
You might wonder why a coffee costs €5, but it’s not actually for a coffee! We use these donations to cover the costs of running this website, licenses and maintaining the domain.
When you donate, the money goes directly toward improving this free service, keeping it advertisement-free, and ensuring that we never charge for our hikes.
We’re not a business, and we have no intention of becoming one.
Are hikes protected by copyright?
All the hikes we organize are free of copyright. Would you like to hike one of our routes yourself? Go ahead! Nature belongs to everyone, and so do the trails. We wish you lots of hiking fun!

Are you a walking group for relaxed strolls?
No. We’re not a traditional walking group offering short or easy strolls. Our events are real hikes: often mountainous, with elevation gain, and usually between 8 and 16 km. We love nature, movement, and a bit of challenge. If you’re looking for relaxed city walks, we’re probably not the right fit.
