The Tram Route in Güéjar Sierra is a unique hike that leads you through a landscape full of history. As you follow the old tramway, you’ll find information panels explaining the ambitious project that once aimed to connect Granada with the higher parts of the Sierra Nevada. The remains of supports, tunnels and structures give the route a charming, almost nostalgic atmosphere.

Along the way, you pass through several carved tunnels and narrow sections with stunning views over the Genil valley. The steep cliffs, forests and the constant sound of the river create a surprisingly varied trail. In several spots, you can still see how the railway was attached to the rock, an impressive example of early twentieth century engineering.

Around the halfway point you reach the iconic suspension bridge crossing the river, one of the most photogenic landmarks in the area. Nearby is a pleasant place to take a short break and enjoy the scenery: the rushing water below, the mountains around you and the idea that a tram once rattled through this gorge. A perfect hike for anyone who enjoys nature with a touch of history.
