This impressive hike in the area of Huétor Santillán takes us through the rugged landscape of the Tajos del Buitre, where nature and altitude come together. From the start, we find ourselves in an open mountain setting with wide views, gradually ascending to nearly 1700 metres. Along the way, we enjoy stunning panoramas, with clear views towards the peaks of the Sierra Nevada on bright days.
We pass Fuente de Polvorite, a peaceful spot where fresh mountain water has been flowing for generations. Not long after, we reach the Mirador del Polvorite, a viewpoint that offers sweeping vistas across valleys and ridgelines. The landscape here feels vast and untouched, with steep rock formations and dramatic cliffs defining the area.
Further along, we come by Cerro del Muerto, a distinctive hill surrounded by local stories and legends. The combination of altitude, rugged terrain and the striking rock formations of the Tajos del Buitre makes this hike a truly special experience. A route full of views, silence and a real sense of being in the mountains.
This hike is quite far from Almuñécar, so it makes sense to travel together to the meeting point.
