The Tram Route in Güéjar Sierra is a unique hike that leads you through a landscape full of history. As you follow the old tramway, you’ll find information panels explaining the ambitious project that once aimed to connect Granada with the higher parts of the Sierra Nevada. The remains of supports, tunnels and structures give the route a charming, almost nostalgic atmosphere.
Along the way, you pass through several carved tunnels and narrow sections with stunning views over the Genil valley. The steep cliffs, forests and the constant sound of the river create a surprisingly varied trail. In several spots, you can still see how the railway was attached to the rock, an impressive example of early twentieth century engineering.
Around the halfway point you reach the iconic suspension bridge crossing the river, one of the most photogenic landmarks in the area. Nearby is a pleasant place to take a short break and enjoy the scenery: the rushing water below, the mountains around you and the idea that a tram once rattled through this gorge. A perfect hike for anyone who enjoys nature with a touch of history.

La Ruta del Tranvía en Güéjar Sierra es un sendero muy especial que te lleva por un paisaje lleno de historia. Siguiendo el antiguo trazado del tranvía encontrarás paneles informativos que explican el ambicioso proyecto que en su día quiso unir Granada con las zonas altas de Sierra Nevada. Los restos de estructuras, túneles y soportes dan al recorrido un ambiente con encanto y un punto nostálgico.
A lo largo del camino pasarás por varios túneles excavados en la roca y por tramos estrechos con vistas espectaculares sobre el valle del Genil. Los cortados, los bosques y el sonido constante del río hacen que el sendero sea sorprendentemente variado. En algunos puntos aún se aprecia cómo el tranvía iba anclado a la roca, todo un ejemplo de la ingeniería de principios del siglo veinte.
Más o menos a mitad del recorrido llegarás al famoso puente colgante que cruza el río, uno de los lugares más fotogénicos de la zona. Cerca hay un rincón perfecto para hacer una breve pausa y disfrutar del paisaje: el agua abajo, las montañas alrededor y la imagen del tranvía que antaño avanzaba por este desfiladero. Una ruta ideal para quienes disfrutan de la naturaleza con un toque histórico.
